Sheet Membrane Waterproofing

What is Sheet Membrane Waterproofing?

It is a pre-formed waterproofing layer (rolls or sheets) made from bitumen, PVC, HDPE, EPDM, or TPO, which is applied over the surface to prevent water ingress.
The sheets are laid with overlap joints, then sealed (by heat, adhesive, or self-adhesion) to form a continuous waterproof layer.

Advantages

  • High durability (10–20 years, some up to 30).

  • Uniform thickness (factory-made, no site mixing errors).

  • Flexible → accommodates minor cracks/structural movements.

  • Good UV & weather resistance (depends on type).

  • Suitable for large exposed terraces and basements

Installation Process

  1. Surface Preparation – Clean & smoothen surface.

  2. Primer Application – Apply bitumen primer (for bituminous sheets).

  3. Membrane Laying – Roll out sheets, align with overlaps.

  4. Sealing Joints – Torch heating (APP), hot air welding (PVC/TPO), or adhesive (self-adhesive sheets).

  5. Protection Layer – Screed or tiles (for terrace use).
